** The grades E-1 through
E-3 (Basic Proficiency) are included for reference purposes only.
E-4 is the lowest enlisted rank accepted into the Space Marines training
school. Applicants must have proven leadership abilities.
** Out of respect for their
Space Corps counterparts and the long history of excellence amongst the
ranks, the Space Marines have eliminated the rank of captain from
its officer grade classifications. It has been replaced by, what
most feel among the Space Marines is the more appropriate rank of
Lieutenant Major.
*** The "regular" Starfleet
Marines have adopted the silver insignia attributed to Earth forces in
their early history. The Space Marines have maintained the traditional
"green and gold" and utilize the standard Starfleet "pip" system.
The gold pips and mega-lectroplate gold knives separate this elite force
from their cousins.
