SF Command. Type 16 SHUTTLECRAFT. Developed at Cathedral
Station by Cathedral Unit. Assigned to Starfleet Special Forces Command
(SFCOM) and Starfleet Intelligence Command (SFI).
The Type 16 shuttlecraft is one of the newest auxiliary craft in the fleet’s inventory. As the vessel is only used by the Special Forces (SFCOM) and Intelligence Commands (SFI), only members of Starfleet associated with these branches even know they exist. Few outside of SFCOM have ever even seen the specs for a Type 16.
The Federation Type 16 shuttlecraft is a small, aerodynamic vessel equipped with both warp and impulse engines. Nicknamed the “Stealth” shuttle, it is designed to land a party, unseen, and bring them back to base once their mission has been completed. But the Type 16 is much more than a simple “drop-ship.” It also brings formidable firepower and exceptional maneuverability to its stealth package.
It can drop into orbital insertion
and land softly on a planet’s surface without the use of ship’s engines.
In this freefall mode, it utilizes laser thrusters. Its specialty is,
of course, aerial drop operations.
The Type 16 is the first Starfleet vessel to utilize the HSS as its primary shield system. The Holographic Shield System provides the craft with a one-of-a kind multi-adaptive shield system.

Hull: Duranium/tetraburnium composite hull built on duranuim/tritanium frame.
Aside from its shield system, the most revolutionary aspect of the Type 16 is its spaceframe. It is the first Starfleet vessel to incorporate a “cellular” design. Borrowing a page from the Borg, the craft’s hull plating is based on nanotechnology. The plating is, literally, a series of layered micro-"machines", each containing its own microscopic “brain” and associated machinery.
Coated with tertraburnium, these micro plates are, individually, capable of independent power and computing. Together, they form a vast “collective” that gives the vessel remarkable capabilities and adaptability.
This configuration makes the Type 16 very difficult to damage. Cell-plates automatically seal breaches. Damage control is vastly aided by the added computing power of the cell-plates.
The hull also has the ability to change its physical configuration, i.e., it can morph. For example, the ship can re-form itself to optimize warp flight and planetfall, changing wing configuration and so forth to provide the smoothest profile for travel, depending on both speed and angle of attack.
The structural duranium, tritanium and tetraburnium alloys have been infused with gaseous Qualminite.
Revolutionary device located (1 each) on both the dorsal and ventral sides of the vessel (fore). Referred to generally as “magnaclamps” these clamps allow the vessel to dock with practically any structure. The system is also equipped with a phaser bore, allowing it to cut open its own accessways.
These clamps can be used to retrieve/deposit
small vessels and equipment such as hoppers. They can also be utilized
as hardpoints for the fitting of weaponry, such as full-size torpedo launchers.

Offensive, defensive, and navigation systems are supplemented by a series
of 50 bio-neural gel packs (25 per core). These are protected with
automated diagnosis/inoculation protocols.
Cell-plating nanotech computing systems: CLASSIFIED.
The Type 16 uses a modified vertical mount matter/antimatter reactor system based on the Andorian shuttle platform. It utilizes the newly discovered element Keltrinium (named after the Trill scientist who discovered it) in place of dilithium. A multiphasic element, Keltrinium, essentially, amplifies the energy generated in the annihilation process by 167 percent. And, the shuttle uses isomagnetic EPS conduits in its plasma manifold. Output is classified.
Based on Andorian shipbuilding design, the warp engines are aft-mounted, in relation to the main body of the ship. The warp nacelles incorporate a micronized version of the in-line impulse system utilized on the Defiant-Class starship platform. This is supplemented by a powerful main impulse plant located aft of the main compartment.
The warp engines allow the ship to attain and maintain emergency speeds of warp 9.95 for 11 hours. Developed with current-generation technology, they do not damage the fabric of space when utilized at high warp velocities. The warp engine field grills and bussard collector intakes can be tuned to the ultraviolet end of the visible spectrum and are visually undetectable from space.
It is equipped with standard type 9 shuttle Reaction Control Thrusters (RCS). The RCS system is supplemented by a separate laser RCS system. A highly efficient system that has not been used in almost 200 years. Utilized in “silent running” ops and tuned to the wavelengths beyond the visible spectrum, they can be used for both attitude and thrust control. There is no ion trail and this makes the craft even stealthier.
Multiple phaser strips (standard). Can be used individually or in banks.
Twin, mini, pulse phaser cannons
(1 prt and 1 stbd). These take advantage of miniature versions of the
emitter crystals used on the Defiant-Class vessels. And benefit from
the increased power systems of the Type 16.
Two micro-torpedo launchers (equipped with accelerator coils). The Type 16 nominally carries between 40 and 50 micro-torpedoes in photon, quantum, Shield-Burst* and SERPENT* configurations. However, fully loaded, it can carry a total of 200 micro-torpedoes.
The Holographic Shield System (HSS Mk III)* can duplicate any known shield harmonic. This can be used to fool an enemy into thinking that it is being approached by a friendly vessel. Shield harmonics programmed into the system include Romulan, Klingon, Gorn, Dominion, Cardassian, and Breen. The "skin" field recharges 200 percent faster than conventional shield generator technology. It is also, truly, multiadaptive, and can produce metaphasic, and multiphasic shield effects. The Type 16 augments this with an experimental system that increases shield strength ten-fold. This system is classified.

EM/Photonic Countermeasures: The Type 16 is equipped
with the latest countermeasures package, making it
extremely difficult to track. It can also disrupt and fool the systems of enemy ships and bases, as well as block
enemy communications within a limited range.

A micronized version of the standard Starfleet sensor system is used aboard
the Type 16. They are
enhanced through the direct ODN feed to the Tactical core and bio-neural gel packs.
Miniaturized versions of the standard Starfleet sensor pallets have been
set behind various EM-opaque hull plating
sheets. They are recessed and shielded during combat operations. Sensors have been optimized for reconnaissance,
surveillance, and combat missions. But also support scientific and astrological studies as well.
Standard communications suite is utilized , enhanced with countermeasures
addition, the Type 16 can transmit both data and linguacode either in flash bursts, or by utilizing the background
radiation of space. It has the additional capacity for narrow beam and recursive algorithmic reverse encrypted signal
